Influence of School Counselling and Inclusive Education on Poverty Alleviation Among Adolescents in Oyo Metropolis

Abstract

What is the fate of the impoverished people around the world? How may poverty be alleviated particularly in Nigeria? What are the causes to discuss concerning poverty viz-a-viz globalization, economic development, and living standards of Nigerians including nourishing food, critical healthcare, and education? This study was carried out to determine the influence of school counselling and inclusive education on poverty alleviation among adolescents in oyo metropolis. The study stated that the failure of the Nigeria educational system is among the prominent causes of poverty among these adolescents as they are been produced as unemployable graduates. The purpose and research questions were outline in the study. The design employed was descriptive survey method ex-post facto type. The study consists of 40 respondents which a self –designed questionnaire was administered on. Results and discussion of the findings were presented. The findings of this study reveal that participants consistently agreed with the positive statements indicating a moderate to strong agreement with the positive impact of inclusive education on poverty alleviation. Participants also agreed with the notion that school counselling can help individuals manage financial stress, improve the mental well-being of individuals in poverty, provide guidance for setting and achieving financial goals, and assist individuals in gaining employment skills. It was recommended that inclusive education must be promoted at every level of educational system. The perceived value of school counselling at educational institutions should prioritize the enhancement of counselling services in every sector of our society. Counselling should be integrated into poverty alleviation programmes because participants supported its integration. Lastly, policymakers and organizations designing poverty reduction initiatives should incorporate measures that can help individuals in poverty address not only economic challenges but also the psychological and emotional aspects of poverty.
