Role of Digital Literacy on Senior Secondary School Students' Academic Performance to Eradicate Poverty

Abstract
Children living in poverty are often denied useful and valuable digital literacy
experiences and skills. These children often do not have access to digital media
and cannot understand the potential of digital technology. The concept of
digital literacy was discussed. The concepts of digital poverty and traditional
poverty were examined. Economic poverty, social poverty, political poverty
and their causes have been discussed. This study attempts to suggest methods
that can help these children by first assessing their current level of digital
media use and digital skills. Research shows that children have moderate
information and operational skills, safety and security skills, communication
and digital interaction skills and problem-solving skills. Information
technology is considered in terms of government empowerment and IT
opportunities. However, they lack content creation and innovation skills. It is
this classification that will help reduce poverty in Nigeria. Therefore, it is
urgent to equip these disadvantaged children with the necessary skills so that
they are not left behind. The purpose of this study is the role of digital literacy
in alleviation of povert.
