Abstract
Entrepreneurship education equips students with the skills and knowledge
needed to alleviate poverty and unlock their full potential. This study
examined Role of Entrepreneurship Education in Shaping the Entrepreneurial
Intentions and Self-Efficacy of Economics Education Students in Public
Universities in Lagos State, Nigeria. A descriptive survey research design was
employed in this study, and the population size was 307 economics education
students from the selected institutions. The sample for the study consisted of
239 students calculated using Slovin’s formula. Three hypotheses guided the
study which were tested using, simple linear regression analysis and one way
ANOVA. The result of the findings showed that entrepreneurship education
has significant influence on entrepreneurial intentions of students in Lagos
State Public Universities(?1 = 0.33; p<0.05), Entrepreneurship education has
significant influence on entrepreneurial self-efficacy among graduating
students of Lagos State Public Universities(?1 = 0.77; p<0.05)and there is a
statistically significant relationship between factors that influence the
effectiveness of entrepreneurship education in promoting the entrepreneurial
intentions and entrepreneurial self-efficacy between students of Lagos State
Public Universities(Fcal16.54>Ftab1.83; p<0.05). The study concluded that
despite knowledge of entrepreneurship education as a contributing factor in the
reduction of unemployment, Nigerian youth requires additional supports to
overcome the foreseen challenges. It was recommended among other things, that more concerted efforts should be put into the technical and vocational
training implemented in the school programme
