Open Educational Resources and Opportunities in Remote Learning in Post-Pandemic Poverty Alleviation in Nigeria

Abstract

In the wake of the global COVID-19 pandemic, the utilization of Open Educational Resources (OER) has emerged as a pivotal strategy for educational continuity, especially in the context of remote learning. This research explores the significance of Open Educational Resources and their role in enhancing educational opportunities within the realm of remote learning, specifically addressing the challenges of post-pandemic poverty alleviation in Nigeria. The study delves into the multifaceted aspects of OER, emphasizing its potential to democratize education by providing free and easily accessible learning materials, transcending socioeconomic barriers. A sample of 150 respondents was captured through a stratified sampling technique. A self-structured instrument on Open Educational Resources and opportunities in remote learning in post-pandemic poverty alleviation in Nigeria Questionnaire on 4 Likert scale format containing 20 items was used to generate data. The instrument was validated by two experts in the educational test and measurement and construct validity were met. Cronbach alpha form of reliability was used in validation as an index value of 0.853 was obtained. The study reveals the transformative power of open education in narrowing the educational divide. It further shows the effectiveness of OER in fostering digital literacy, and enhancing teacher-student interactions, thereby promoting lifelong learning opportunities among disadvantaged communities.The study recommendsa collaborative approach wherein OER, coupled with appropriate policies and investments, can empower individuals, bridge educational gaps, and catalyse socioeconomic development in post-pandemic Nigeria.
