Effect of Instructional Materials on Senior Secondary School Students’ Academic Achievement in Biology.

Abstract
The purpose of this research was to investigate the effect of instructional materials on senior secondary school students’ academic achievement in Biology. Two private schools were selected from Ojo Zone of Education district V of Lagos state and the sample size was one hundred S.S.S 2 students. The Posttest only design with nonequivalent groups Quasi-experimental design made use of self-developed Biology Achievement Test (BAT) as instrument (reliability value: 0.76) to test two hypotheses. t-test was used in the analysis of the data. Results showed that there is a significant difference in academic achievement of students taught with instructional materials and those taught without instructional materials in senior secondary schools in Lagos state, also, there is no significant gender difference in academic achievement of senior secondary students taught with instructional materials in Lagos state. The result indicates that there is positive effect of instructional materials on Senior Secondary School Students’ Academic Achievement in Lagos State. It is recommended that teachers should supplement and complement verbal explanations with instructional materials thereby making learning experience richer.
